Natural Gas Reserves Canada is about 20th in the world in terms natural gas reserves. Most of our natural gas remaining is in the north, but large quantities of natural gas also lay under Alberta and northeast BC, and along the east coast.
Natural gas includes “conventional” gas found in underground petroleum reservoirs, as well as “unconventional gas”. According to the Canadian Society for Unconventional Resources (CSUR), unconventional gas is “natural gas that is contained in ‘difficult to produce’ rock formations” such as natural gas from coal, tight sands, shale gas or gas hydrates.
